Whether you are a relaxed rambler, a casual walker, a serious hiker, a mountain climber or just like to get out and enjoy the nature, The Old School is ideally situated to enjoy some of the most beautiful walks in Argyll.

Timber Walk

Starting from the Timber Walk car park, 3.5km south of Dalavich the waymarked route heads down to the shores of Loch Awe, passing the remains of a crannog, before climbing up past a waterfall through McKenzie's Grove with its giant Douglas Fir trees. The paths are waymarked throughout and can be muddy in places.

Loch Avich Trail

The Loch Avich Trail starts from Barnaline Forest Car Park, which is within walking distance of the Old School. The walk is around 8km and climbs 260 metres. There are a number of trails here, and the Loch Avich trail is the longest, climbing through the fine remnant oakwoods that overlook Loch Awe before reaching the commercial forest and Loch Avich.
The walk will take you through a very mixed landscape of peat bog and flower meadow, conifer forest, and loch side.

Loch Avich Falls

Heading out from Barnaline Car Park a short walk up hill will bring you to Avich Falls. Going up one side of the river across and down the other, you can see the old hydro scheme, the different facets of the river, and of course enjoy the peace and thundering water of the falls themselves.
